Belair Schools is a junior and upper primary school in the Adelaide Hills. About The School The school is an Eco School and participates in recycling, watercare, composting , energy management, and sustainable environmental practice. In 1999, Belair Schools and Momoyama Elementary School in Kyoto, Japan, signed a sister school agreement. Its main aim was to promote an international friendship between Belair students and staff and Momoyama students and staff through an exchange program. Every two years, during May, a group of Year 6 and 7 students and staff travel to Kyoto for 10 days. In the alternate year, Momoyama students and staff visit Belair during August. It has become an integral part of the Japanese language and cultural program at Belair and receives strong support from the Belair school community. Curriculum The Teaching and Learning Program at Belair Schools is based on the Department of Education & Children’s Services (DECS) curriculum framework, ‘South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability’. The five essential learnings which permeate all of the eight learning areas are:- Identity Thinking Interdependence Futures Communication The school's aim is to provide students with opportunities and experiences to develop knowledge, understanding and skills related to each of the eight areas of study: English Mathematics Society and Environment Health and Physical Education Science Arts Japanese Design and Technology Students with special learning needs have access to extra short term support, especially in Literacy and Numeracy. In addition, all classes are equiped with interactive whiteboards, have access to the Internet and a large intranet site Grounds and Facilities A large gymnasium, swimming pool and a lush oval add to the facilities available to the school community. The School also houses a canteen which provides a banquet of healthy food choices for students to purchase. The school grounds are heavily vegetated, with adventure playgrounds, shaded and lawned areas offering play and recreation areas for students.
