Rick Levine

Rick Levine (born in 1958, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania) was a co-author of the Cluetrain web site in 1999 and of the book The Cluetrain Manifesto: The End of Business as Usual published in 2000.
Levine worked for Control Data Corporation's Plato Systems Group, and as a technologist and manager for Sun Microsystems (1986-1999), including as a web architect during the early days of Sun's Java technology division. Levine has also worked in, founded, and raised money for several technology start-ups. He owns a patent on stateless shopping cart technology that was one of the few instances of prior art cited by Amazon engineers in their controversial 1-click commerce patent.
Earlier in his career, Levine worked for his father at a custom architectural ceramics studio, an experience that seemingly affected his discussion of Web sites as works of craft in the Cluetrain projects. In 2006, he co-founded Seth Ellis Chocolatier with David Lurie and his brother Neil Levine, Boulder, Colorado.
He was educated as a filmmaker, and has a bachelors degree in television and film production from Temple University.
