Richard Spindler

Richard "Rich" Spindler, Ph.D. (born 1963) is an American Politician and College Professor.
Spindler is a senior lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a mathematics instructor at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. In April 2013, Spindler was elected to the Eau Claire Board of Education, and became its President on April 28, 2014, succeeding Carol Craig.
Spindler is a politically-liberal activist who has been a public voice in opposition to Governor Scott Walker's budget reforms. He has been endorsed by Wisconsin Progress and is a member of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. Spindler serves on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters and has served on the Sierra club state Executive Committees for both the Vermont and Wisconsin chapters. Spindler was Wisconsin's delegate to the national Sierra Club for two years. Rich has worked at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in the Air Management Section as both a Database Manager and an Air Permit Engineer. He was also appointed by the Eau Claire City Council to serve on the Parks and Waterways Committee.
In November 2014, Spindler faced scrutiny when The Eau Claire Area School District did not schedule a 21-gun salute on school grounds for a Traditional Veterans Day program. The National Rifle Association stated that the incident was "an insult to those who carried arms in defense of American freedom." Spindler responded on his Facebook page, writing "Veteran's Day activities were not cancelled. The only thing that did not happen was a 21 gun salute, which hasn't even been a regular event in the past. The specific reasons here were scheduling issues, timing, and in the interest of particular special needs students in some of the schools."
