Richard Aslett

Richard Aslett, is an artist/photographer/politician, living in the Rangitikei township of Mangaweka. Recent works to win awards “When the Lahar Broke” [http://www.ohakune.info/files/030707_bulletin.pdf (page 1 and 2)] a depiction of the NZ volcano Mount Ruapehu, created using actual mud from the 2007 Lahar, which claimed the open section of the 2007 Waimarino Art Awards. Also the winner of the white pages phone book cover competition, with a screen print design of Mangaweka’s iconic DC-3 Aeroplane café on State Highway One the image will be published on 60,000 of the Lower North Islands phone book covers during 2008/09. Aslett was also a key organiser of the recent Mangaweka "Fakes & Forgeries" festival which featured the artist C.F. Goldie (aka. Karl Sim) . Aslett moved into local politics being elected the Chairperson of the Rangitikei District Council Taihape Community Board in October 2007 &
