Richard A. Karp (1944— ) is an American computer engineer. Graduating in 1964 from Cal Tech and in 1966 from the University of Wisconsin with an M.S. in mathematics, Karp joined Burroughs in 1969. Between 1974 and 1975, while a graduate student at Stanford, he worked with Vint Cerf on an early implementation of the Transmission Control Protocol, or TCP. He graduated from Stanford in 1980 with a Ph.D. in computer science. As of 2006, Karp was the CEO of Catapult Communications, a company that develops digital telecom test systems. Karp's email address (<code>RAK@SU-AI</code>) was given as part of an example in RFC 773, "Comments on NCP/TCP mail service transition strategy". He was also one of the coauthors of the Stanford Pascal Verifier User Manual.
