Resident Evil: First Hour

Resident Evil: First Hour is a webseries distributed by Machinima.com and produced by Cosmic Mutt Pictures. It is considered an 'alternate prequel' to Resident Evil 2 and premiered in November 2011. There are currently two episodes live on Machinima's youtube channel. It is based on Capcom's popular videogame franchise Resident Evil.
The series offers a grittier, more classically horror like, take on the Resident Evil franchise and has been met with a largely positive reception from fans. It is expected to run four episodes and it is not yet known whether more seasons are to be released in the future.

Story
Resident Evil: First Hour is considered a prequel to Resident Evil 2 and follows Leon Kennedy as he comes up against an undead horde on the outskirts of Raccoon City (the fictional USA city of the Resident Evil universe0.
Leon, a fresh out of the academy cop, turns up at the wrong station on his first day as a police officer. He is taken on a call by Sgt. Richard Cameron and Dep. Philip Jackson to a farm outside the city to investigate an 'attack'. When they arrive however Leon happens upon a zombie eating the farmer. In episode 2 Leon and Richard kill this zombie only for Philip to be attacked by another zombie (possibly the farmer's wife) as many more undead appear.
It is not yet known if any other characters appear in the series though tags on each episode hint to a possible appearance by Albert Wesker, this is backed up in an interview with the series' creators where they stated "who knows who might show up".
Production
Little is known of how the series was made, with the creators staying largely silent (even in interviews) about how it was made. The series uses a largely American cast who appear to be UK based (as do the creators) though Leon Kennedy is played by James Whitwell, a british actor. Many fans have noted the cinematic quality of the series, yet others have stated their belief that it is relatively low budget. Machinima.com have released the webseries' Dragon Age: Redemption and Mortal Kombat: Legacy and it appears that Resident Evil: First Hour was made on a comparable budget.
Release
Episode one of the series was released on youtube by Machinima.com on November 29th 2011 and currently has over 200,000 views. Episode two was released on December 6th 2011 and currently has approx 100,000 views. It appears the episodes are released each Tuesday and as such episodes three and four (of the supposedly four part series) should be expected on the 13th and 20th December 2011 respectively.
Reception
The series has had a relatively positive reception, with around 2000-1000 likes versus 200 approx dislikes on each episode (and many of the comments are very positive). Many fans believe it more faithful to the Resident Evil videogames than the Resident Evil film series, though there are numerous comments that are unhappy with how Leon Kennedy looks, specifically regarding his age and hair style.
