Red State Diaries is a television comedy show starring comedian Lewis Black being developed for Comedy Central to begin airing in 2007. Comedy Central says it will feature Black on the road reaching for a positive understanding of the red states. This will be the second spin-off from The Daily Show, after The Colbert Report. It will be produced by Black, Apostle, Sony Pictures Television, and Jeff Stilson.
According to Black, episodes have been recorded and tested well, but "Comedy Central is upset because didn't yell enough" and suggested he work with the comics from Blue Collar TV. Lewis Black responded to this request with the following statement:
:"They are friends of mine, and I would love to work with them. It's a different show. So they want me to do another one, they're trying to work with me to try to get a special out and the special's gonna be with Larry the Cable Guy or Jeff Foxworthy or Ron White or Bill Engvall. But none of us would do this show. We would work on another show. It would probably be a radio show."
The title is a parody of the title of the Showtime series Red Shoe Diaries, a late-night show from the 1990s.
