Rangoli Chandel is an Indian acid attack survivor and elder sister of bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Currently, she works as manager. Early life and the attack Rangoli was attacked with acid by Avinash Sharma and Prem Singh on 6th October, 2006. Avinash was from her hometown and a lover who was obsessed over Rangoli and Prem was a welder, who was Avinash's accomplice in the crime. The main motive of the acid attack was rejection of marriage proposal of Avinash Sharma. She was taken to the hospital and she underwent 54 surgeries over the span of 5 years. She lost one of her ears, 90% of the vision of one of her eyes was lost due to which she had to go through a retina transplant and she has a dysfunctional breast, even after going through the best medical treatment in the country. Her sister Kangana supported her throughout her journey, she looked after her when her other family members failed to do so.The physical pain was one thing but the mental trauma she faced was immense. Her parents would faint whenever they saw her. They would often throw tantrums as to what would happen to her and who would marry her. Avinash Sharma and Prem Singh were later arrested and the prosecution chargesheeted the two under section 120 B, 326 and 506 of the IPC for hatching conspiracy, physical assault and intimidation. There were sentenced five-year rigorous imprisonment by Chief Judicial Magistrate K K Shukla. Controversies Tweets on Nepotism Rangoli has made a number of tweets on the subject of nepotism and has frequently mentioned Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Sonam K Ahuja and Ananya Pandey to be active members of nepotism gang.. She also made an accusation that the actors who are part of the nepotism gang are trying to sabotage career. Tweets on Politics and Hate Speech In April, 2020, Rangoli's tweet seeked the suspension of 2024 general elections as she was convinced that the current ruling party would win the election anyway. And hence, they should be lead the people of India into another term without being democratically elected thereby saving the resources which are generally utilized during elections. On April 15th, Chandel had taken to Twitter to express her views on the Tablighi Jamaat. The tweet, which was filled with hate speech and expletives, started a gigantic shock on Twitter and a few netizens called upon Twitter and Mumbai Police, requesting them to take necessary action against Rangoli Chandel. After a few days,Twitter suspended Chandel's account for allegedly ‘spreading hate’.<ref name":5" /> <ref name":6" /> <references />
