RA-04049 Eurocopter EC120 Kola Peninsula crash

RA-04049 was a Eurocopter EC120B Colibri that crashed on Kola Peninsula, Russia, while flyng two British tourists and their guide to a remote fishing camp.

Crash
On July 21, 2013, a Eurocopter EC120 helicopter crashed on the Kola Peninsula, Russia.
The pilot had dropped off two tourists and their interpreter at an angling camp, when one of its wheels sank into water-logged ground and it tilted. The passengers got hit by the rotor blades and debris, and died at the location. The pilot sustained injuries but survived.
Crew and passengers
News media has published the names of the casualties, fine art dealer Mark Robertson, 69 and retired corporate lawyer Rupert Beaumont, 69, as well as Russian guide and interpreter, Alexander Tushnikov, 53.
The Britons were heading to an angling camp, Rynda Lodge, at the Rynda river 90 miles south-east of Murmansk.
Eye witnesses
Numerous local eye witnesses were present at the site.
Investigation
The local department of Russia’s Investigative Committee has been quoted that the pilot is to be blamed for the crash.
The Russian authorities opened a criminal investigation into the deaths. After the crash, an officer from the local transport prosecutor’s office was sent to the site to conduct the investigation.
