Canley Vale Airtex plane crash

An Airtex Aviation Piper PA-31 Navajo crashed into a street nearby a school in Canley Vale, New South Wales about 8:15 am on June 15, 2010. The plane took off from Bankstown Airport at 7:50 on a Wingaway Air aeromedical transport flight to pick up a patient at Brisbane, and was heading north when the plane suffered unknown problems and started losing altitude. Heading back to the airport, the pilot declared mayday and turned back south to make an emergency landing at Bankstown. The plane could not reach the runway and the pilot, seeking an alternative landing site, struck electrical wires before crashing into Canley Vale Road near Canley Vale Public School. The crash killed the pilot and a single passenger, Wingaway's head nurse.<ref name=Cuneo />
