Carlos Nieto Lopez a.k.a "Qstom" (born September 10, 1980) is an European contemporary artist, visual development artist, and illustrator currently based in central London. Life/Education/Career Having left school at 16 believing somewhat naively that he had achieved all he could regarding academic development Qstom trained to be a fireman, worked as a lifeguard and stocked shelves in Ikea. In 2000 Qstom was lucky enough to be asked to join a small team as a graphic designer in central Madrid. In 2002 he worked as a freelance comic artist/illustrator producing a number of covers and internal work for a leading Spanish comic. 2004 saw Qstom join a team working for Cartoon Network and from 2005 to 2008 he was offered the role of colour artist/matter-painter on Sony Pictures 2009 Thanks Giving hit 'Planet 51' which won a Goya Award in 2010 for Best Animated Film. 2008 saw Qstom move to London following an offer to work on Universal Pictures 'The Tale of Despereaux' once again as a colour artist. Qstom always aimed to work in London and so he jumped at the opportunity to develop his skills and career. Following the move to London Qstom choose to stay working as a freelance artist on a number of commercial projects and animated films including lead matter-painter within the art department of the Oscar nominated 'The Lady and the Reaper.' Firms such as The Mill, Blue Sky Animation, Picasso Pictures, Nexus, AKA Studio and Superfad have worked with Qstom as a freelance 2D artist on a number of extremely successful pitches and projects.
