History
In 1995 Q Dot (who then went by the stage name Quality) joined brothers Ken and Rion Pryor to form the rap trio The Black Diamonds. The trio briefly added DJ Steez (Nate Bernal)- the younger brother of famed rave party promoter Luis "Taco" Bernal who was killed December 11th 2006- to the Diamonds but a jail bid for Bernal cut his time with the group short. The Diamonds were a East Coast style hip hop group known for heavy beats and punchlines. Founder of Brave New World Records Shyan Selah dubbed the group "the baby Lox".
In 2001-2002, Q Dot attended the same college two of his four elder brothers attended and played football at. That being Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington to study business administration. During freshman orientation Q battled guest speaker and Tacoma rapper C.A.U.T.I.O.N in front of the entire Freshman student body. The battle immediately drew popularity for him on campus. It was in his college dorm that Q Dot recorded his first solo demo, a 14 track CD titled "Fire and Ice". He shopped the demo to major labels and drew light to moderate interest from Interscope, Epic, now-defunct Arista and Columbia Records. Though no deal materialized from the demo, he left Central Washington University to focus on a budding music career.
In 2002-2003 Q Dot reunited with The Black Diamonds and other local artists (The Parker Brothaz, Slim Reaper, G Digga, Fame Rilla, J-Hen, KJ and Rocka) to record and release a mixtape titled The Knockout Kings Vol. 1. The mixtape featured original production from Tryfe (Black diamonds) Q Dot (Black Diamonds), J-Hen (219, Tha Bizniss) John Silva (High Powered Entertainment) and PK (Ruff Ryders). The CD caught the ear of clear channel KUBE 93 on air/club jock DJ Supasam, Supasam featured the tapes single 'You aint ready' performed by Q dot and Tryfe, on the local music show Future Flavaz. 'You aint ready' ended the year as the #3 local single of the year. The group teamed up with Supasam to release another mixtape titled "TKO" shortly after.
In 2004 Q Dot and Tryfe started Tre'dmarks Music Group to release mixtapes from Stretch (Parker Brothaz), Rocka, Tre'dmarks Radio and an unreleased follow up to the successful Knockout Kings.
In 2006 Q Dot released his first solo CD Death is Dying. The official music video for the single Hotter than a furnace was shot by another Central Washington alum Jon Rice and short lived company Foresight Films. The single was #3 Hot urban single in october 2006 on radiowave music chart behind Jim Jones' "Ballin" and Fergie's "London Bridge". The video received moderate airplay on regional networks and a short stint on MTVU.
