Public swimming at the Beijing National Aquatics Center
The warm-up pool of the Beijing National Aquatics Center, also known as the Water Cube, has been open to the public for swimming since June 20, 2009. The pool has ten 50-meter lanes. Opening Times Thursdays to Sundays from 2pm to 9pm, with last admission at 7pm. The ticket booths and entrance for swimmers are on the west side of the building. Admission Requirements Admission fee: 50 yuan (full price for two hours) Physical exam: Swimmers need to pass a brief physical exam to demonstrate fitness. It can be as short as having one's temperature taken with an infrared device, and a nurse holding a stethoscope to one's chest for a second. Swim test: Swimmers without a Chinese swimming certificate must demonstrate that they can swim by passing a 200-meter swim test. Life guards may certify a swimmer after completing 100 meters if they are obviously qualified. The swim test costs an extra 20 yuan. To receive a Chinese swimming certificate, swimmers must bring a passport photo. Such a swimming certificate is not mandatory, but will allow the swimmer to skip the swim test (and its fee) in the future. Uncertified swimmers initially receive a red wristband, which is then exchanged for a blue wristband for certified swimmers after passing the swim test. Swim cap: Swimmers must wear a swim cap. Swim caps are available for purchase at the Water Cube for 35 yuan. The Water-Cube motive swim caps make for a good souvenir. Lockers Swimmers receive a locker wristband with an electronic locker key. Imprinted on the locker key is the number of the locker. Holding the key next to the corresponding locker will open the locker.
