Project Roony

Project Roony or The House on the moon is an effort to errect a house on the moon. It is a collaboration between Sweden's Malardalen University and artist Mikael Genberg, who reportedly has approached the country's flat-pack furniture giant Ikea for sponsorship. The objective is to build an autonomous lunar rover that is capable of transporting a package containing this cottage, from the landing site to an appropriate resting place where it can be built. The mechanical design of the cottage has not yet been completed, the aim is a mass of 5kg and transport size about 6l, with a final living space of 10 square meters. The cottage is to be erected on the moon's surface by 2012 by a small robot known as "Roony", developed by Malardalen.
