President Coriolanus Snow is the main antagonist of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games trilogy. Character background The Hunger Games Snow makes a brief appearance at the end of The Hunger Games, giving Katniss and Peeta their victory crowns. Catching Fire President Snow visits Katniss at the beginning of Catching Fire, telling her that she will have to prove her love for Peeta and what happened at the end of The Hunger Games was out of love and not a threat to the Capitol. Unfortunately, she fails his inspection. Since this is a year of a Quarter Quell,which happens every 25 years to keep the rebellion even fresher in the minds of the districts, a card is pulled that says what added horror will be used this year for the Hunger games. The card pulled for the 3rd Quarter Quell reads "As a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors," and Katniss becomes certain that Snow rigged the reading. This means that only victors will be pulled for the reaping, and she is the only living female victor in District 12. President Snow still wants Katniss dead, since she "failed" and caused the uprisings. Mockingjay President Snow is the center of Katniss's target in Mockingjay, and she organizes a plan to kill him. After the Capitol falls, Snow is convicted and sentenced to death. Because Katniss is the Mockingjay, she is given the opportunity to execute Snow, but she assassinates President Coin instead. In the chaos that follows, Katniss witnesses Snow laughing and coughing up blood as a crush of people surround them. When everything calmed down, Snow is found dead, either from choking on his own blood or being crushed by the crowd. Characterization Appearance President Snow is a small, thin man, with paper-white hair, thick lips that seem pulled across his face. Katniss once stated that his lips smelled of roses and blood. Katniss compares his eyes to a snake's. Personality Though laid back, President Snow is full of sadistic thoughts. He is not afraid to kill to get what he wants. In many cases, people that opposed him mysteriously dies of poisoning. He also poisoned himself to avoid detection, which is where the smell of blood came from.
