Preps On The Net is a Wisconsin high school sports Web site based in West Bend, Wisconsin, that covers teams that are affiliated with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. The ground work for the site was formed in May, 2007, and finally became an active Web site in October 2007. Preps On The Net is the first interactive Web site that features live-streaming or tape-delayed coverage of high school athletic and extracurricular activities. The site also offers daily high school coverage, unique feature videos and highlights, schedules and statistics for every school throughout the state of Wisconsin. Preps On The Net's niche is that it is the only high school Web site that combines academics with athletics by providing opportunities for student participation in all forms of media. The main part of that student-intern work is done in the filming of each school's events which is all done by students. Senior writer Judy Steffes also boasts over 80 student writers that generate content for the site on a daily basis. The beginning Preps On the Net was started in May 2007 as the brain child of Steve Kearns with backing from former Milwaukee Bucks coach George Karl and former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green along with Joe Menter. The site went live in October 2007. What is on Preps On the Net? Preps On The Net focuses on teaming academics with athletics. The goal of this pairing is to provide students with valuable journalism, computer, filming and video streaming techniques. The site's senior writers work with high school English and journalism departments to train student writers. Student stories are then posted in their own section on the Preps On The Net Web site with their student byline. Prepsonthenet’s most unusual feature is the ability to stream live video from any school that has a contract with the company. The feature allows for athletic competitions to be broadcast live over the internet for anyone to view. The site employs a staff of writers that cover the state's both on the field and in the classroom happenings on a daily basis. Beyond written stories there is also a staff of videographers and editors that produce short video features. The Preps On The Net Goal From the Preps On the Net "About us" web page, the site discusses its relationship with schools that best discusses what the goal of the site is.
