CitrusTV News

CitrusTV News is an entirely student-produced weeknight news program at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY produced by CitrusTV.
Previously known as Syracuse University News (SUN) and HillTV News, the program recaps the news of the day both on and off the Syracuse University campus.
Production
Each newscast consists of five blocks. Typically the first block contains breaking news, campus news and local news. Video for these stories is typically shot and edited throughout the day by student photographers and editors.
The second block consists of national and international news. Video for these stories is provided by the CNN Newsource.
The third block always contains weather, which is shot in front of a green screen. The fourth block of sports is produced by the CitrusTV sports department, featuring both national teams and original coverage of the Syracuse Orange. The fifth block usually contains a short weather chat and "kicker" story.
Editors use CitrusTV's Avid edit suites, and the newscast is produced on Associated Press ENPS software.
CitrusTV News is produced and taped at the CitrusTV station in the Robert B. Mesnschel Media Center on Waverly Ave.
Special presentations
CitrusTV News presented an hour and a half live special for the landmark 2008 presidential election. The special featured live results of the presidential election and local elections, in addition to several election-related video packages produced by CitrusTV reporters.
In January 2009, CitrusTV News produced live special coverage of President Barack Obama's inauguration.
Web presence
With CitrusTV's current Web site, launched in October 2008, CitrusTV News reporters and producers also provide daily extended text articles with photos online.
Distribution
CitrusTV News appears on the Orange Television Network (OTN), the university-run campus cable channel 2. For a portion of each academic semester, the show is recorded live-to-tape at 6 p.m. EST and played at 9 p.m. on OTN. After a few weeks into the semester, the show airs live at 6 on OTN.
CitrusTV News also appears online on the CitrusTV.net Web site, in the iTunes Music Store podcast directory and on Syracuse.com, the Web site of the Syracuse newspaper, the Post-Standard.
