History
Play Radio UK was officially launched in October 2006 with the opening of its state-of-the-art studios in Sussex. It originally launched with just 3 stations; Play Radio UK, Play Rock UK and Play Classical. Play Xmas UK was launched a couple of months later, exclusively for the festive period. In early 2007 a further two stations; Play Dance UK and Play Top40 UK were added to the schedule. On 6 October 2007 (Play Radio’s 1st birthday) 5 new genre-specific stations were launched to celebrate the occasion. These included Play Country UK, Play Jazz UK, Play Love UK, Play Reggae UK and Play Urban UK. This meant there were now 10 stations belonging to the network. In early 2008 the decision was made to split the live signature station - Play Radio UK - into two separate live stations; Play One UK and Play Two UK, with each station capturing two very different audiences. During the latter part of 2008, on the radio network’s 2nd birthday, a new station was launched; Play Gold UK along with Play Xmas UK for the 2008/09 festivities. In November 2008, the Play Radio UK network joined forces with the Something Corporation which saw an updated website and logo as well as the addition of more online services. Play Radio UK already provide podcasts of all of their talk shows and any special features that maybe broadcast throughout the network.
