History
PingGadget was created with the intent of making microblogging a more useful protocol by which the information streams being created could benefit daily decision making. The idea came about when the creators recognized that interaction with existing follower streams on competitive systems were extremely limited, tangential, and insufficient in realizing their full potential.

Open Beta
After six months of being in closed Alpha, an announcement was made in early 2010 that August 16th, 2010 would be the date for public Beta and availability in the United States.

Technology
PingGadget is powered by LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) with some .NET used in the core software. A future API allows programmers to apply for an application key in order to develop third party applications. Users must apply for an API key through their user profile.
