abas Business Software is an Enterprise resource planning & e-business application designed for manufacturers in the Assemble-to-Order, Make-to-Order and Engineer-to-Order environment. The ABAS Software AG is a software manufacturer based in Karlsruhe and interests in a larger number of German and international companies. The company was founded in 1980. Worldwide, some 50 affiliates are responsible for the distribution of the software. Main product Main product is abas Business Software, an ERP system for SME. The brand name abas Business Software includes the products abas ERP for production, abas Distribution for wholesale, distribution and service companies, and the eBusiness solution abas eB. The functionality includes purchasing and sales, production, materials management and financial accounting. The system is mainly used in mechanical and plant engineering, in the automotive industry and in trade and service companies. The provided standard software covers typical requirements. The system is being used worldwide, made possible by the Unicode character set. abas Business Software can be operated in 28 languages and has supported the open source operating system Linux since 1995. The software’s foundation is the object-oriented database. The application tier is based on the database and contains the software’s core functions. The presentation tier, or "Flexible User Interface (FOP)", comprises the third and final tier, which interfaces with the user. The "Individual User Interface", the "Standard Flexible User Interface" and the "abas Tools" all belong to the presentation tier. OS basis Linux, various other UNIX derivates and Windows are available as server operating systems. Windows or Linux (Wine) is being used on the workstations. Print/Reporting abas is released together with the open source product JasperReports. Direct print of documents is thus possible, but also the generation of reports in various file formats (e.g. PDF, Excel, XML).
