Peter Aiken

Peter Aiken, Ph. D. (born January 17, 1959) is a practicing data consultant, author and researcher. Peter is the Founding Director of Data Blueprint, a consulting firm that helps organizations leverage data. He is also Associate Professor of Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and past President of the . Aiken is often quoted as an advocate for the institution of a Chief Data Officer in corporate structure and for the use of corporate data as a strategic asset.
Education
A local of Richmond, VA, Aiken graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration & Information Systems. While studying, Aiken began working at the university as a computer systems engineer. This continued through his graduate school experience for which he earned a Masters in Information Systems, graduating in 1985. Continuing his education, Aiken attended George Mason University in Washington D.C., where he earned his Ph. D. in Information Technology in 1989.
Career
Following his doctorate, Aiken remained at George Mason University as an Assistant Professor, teaching classes in systems engineering. While in D.C., he began working as a Reverse Engineering Program Manager at the . In 1991, Aiken became the President of DAMA International, where he currently maintains a position on the board of directors.
Returning to his hometown, Peter founded the data consulting firm, Data Blueprint, in 1999. This move launched his consulting career, which to date includes work for Deutsche Bank, Nokia, Wells Fargo, Walmart, Capital One, and the US Army. Peter continues to practice as a data consultant and teaches as an Associate Professor of Information Systems at his alma mater, VCU. He often gives keynote speeches and is considered to be a thought leader in the field of corporate data.
