P. Shane Mitchell (born August 7, 1964) is an American actor, playwright and director. He became the Artistic Director of TBA Theatre Company in Anchorage, Alaska in 2003. Early Life Mitchell was born in Tooele, Utah, the youngest of four sons: Brad, Troy, and Wayne. His family moved frequently as a result of his father's employment with the United States Government as a Forest Ranger. The family lived in Bridgeport, California, Island Park Idaho, and ultimately settled in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended Hanshew Middle School and graduated from Service High School Awards and nominations Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a Masters of Arts from Wichita State University. As a performer he has been honored with two Patricia Neal acting awards and was chosen to represent the United States at the 2000 Olympic Arts Festival in Sydney Australia. Mitchell was the recipient of the 2010 Jerry Harper Service Award at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference. Playwriting credits As a playwright and member of the Dramatists Guild of America he has published three works for young audiences. These are The Enchanted Pajamas, Half a King is Better Than None, and Jolly Roger King of The Pirates. His serious work on cancer, titled Understanding, was commissioned by The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, and has since been produced over 100 times including an airing on the American Public Broadcasting Service. His unpublished, but frequently produced works include stage adaptations of horror classics such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Monkey's Paw, The Witch of the Graythorn, as well as many of the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Two of his works were written and developed especially for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. These were "The Texas Gultch Opera House" and "Daze of Old". Two additional works, "Rockin' Red Riding Hood" and "Soapy Smith's Alaskana Extraviganza" have also been presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Shane has also written plays for both the Last Frontier Theatre Conference and the Alaska Overnighters 24-hour play lab. Directing credits Mitchell has directed scores of plays, including the critically acclaimed production of ', by Rand Higbee. Off Broadway credits In 2007, his short play "The Resurrection of Humpty Dumpty" was selected to appear in the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival in New York City.
