P. B. Buckshey

Purushottam B. Buckshey (1926—) was an Indian psychiatrist and Neuro-physician. Buckshey was active in the Dehli area where provision of psychiatric care was far lower than in other large cities in India. He became first President of the Dehli Psychiatric Society and served as served as honorary physician to three of the Presidents of India.
He was later awarded a fellowship through the Colombo Plan and studied in England.
In 1966 there are records of Buckshey giving introductions to Psychiatry to General Practioners in Dehli. In 1967 he took position at the Hospital for Mental Diseases at Shahdra, the first provisioning of such a hospital in Dehli which was built in 1966.
A former Assistant Director General of Health Services (Medical Education), Government of India, and a Fellow of the International Medical Sciences Academy.
He served as the honorary physician to three of the Presidents of India. He is also a recipient of awards such as Shiromani Award, Eminent Citizen of India Award (1994), Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award (1994) and Ati Param Visisht Chikitsa Medal (1997).<ref name="Achievers" />
The P.S. Buckley award is named after him.
