Career
Owain is a young musician, and began his musical career as a chorister in St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol. After leaving in 2006, he began to sing in the back row of Holy Trinity Church, Westbury on Trym, before becoming Organ Scholar there in late 2007. He studied the Organ with Reg Parker, Organist of St Peters Church, Henleaze, Bristol, and accompanied the several choirs at Holy Trinity, under the directorship of David Odgen and Organist Richard Johnson. During this time, he joined many of the choirs run by Ogden, including the City of Bristol Choir, and the RSCM Millenium Youth Choir, the latter enabling him to perform Handel's Messiah in the Royal Albert Hall.
In addition to those choirs, he now sings with The Hogan Ensemble, and the Wellensian Consort, which has just won the prestigious Choir of the Year 2010, and will hold this title for two years.
In September 2010 he became the Junior Organ Scholar of Wells Cathedral, playing under the directorship of Matthew Owens.
Owain has won national and international composition competitions, including most recently the National Centre for Early Music Young Composers' Award, and the Phoenix Singers Composition Competition 2010/11. His compositions have been performed in churches across Bristol, and in Cathedrals such as Wells and Chester. Leading vocal ensembles, including the Tallis Scholars, have performed his work.
