Elizabeth Stratford is an English organist, composer and choral conductor, at present the Organist and Master of the Choristers of Arundel Cathedral. She is noteworthy as the first woman to be appointed to the senior music post at an English cathedral. Education and early career Stratford was educated St. Joseph's Catholic College, Bradford and then at the University of Huddersfield winning scholarships for voice, composition and organ from the RCO and other trusts. She studied at the University of Leeds with Gordon Stewart (organ), Simon Lindley (choir training) and Philip Wilby (composition) Shipley Parish Church Stratford was appointed Organist at Shipley Parish church in the year 2000. The choir released a CD under her direction in 2002. Arundel In 2002, Stratford was appointed Organist and Director of Music at Arundel Cathedral, succeeding Alistair Warwick. She established choir places for young singers on her arrival and now combines her work in Arundel with a busy teaching career. She teaches at Brighton College as a keyboard specialist. She holds diplomas from the Guild of Church Musicians, ABRSM and the Faculty of Church Music. She has broadcast on BBC1.
