OVerus ~ The Christian Business Emblem, is a certification mark designed for use on products and services. It represents Christian values, and enables good stewards to make purchase decisions that respect their faith.
Meanings The word "OVerus" means "acceptable" as it relates to Christian stewardship. The word is derived from the Latin "verus," which translates to "true" or "proper," but some also like to think that Jesus watches "OVer-us."
Usage The OVerus Emblem can be attached to a product or service in several ways. For anything shelf-based a sticker can be used, or it can be incorporated as part of a label design. For a web site, document, or any electronic media, the .gif image shown on this page may be used. "OVerus" can also be used as an adjective to denote a certified product. For example, "OVerus milk," or an "OVerus taxi service" are both acceptable. As text inline it may also be written with a tilde; for example, "Allen's Automotive ~ OVerus."
The OVerus Organization The OVerus Organization is the entity responsible for management of the logo and certifying products. "OVerus," "The Christian Business Emblem," and the OVerus mark are all trademarks thereof.
Certification When a company elects to produce an OVerus product/service, The OVerus Organization inspects it against Christ-centered best practices to ensure that the product complies with Christian values. Some key points in this process include a product/service screening, and an inspection of community involvement policies. Brand must demonstrate a community involvement program aligned with at least one of the categories stated by Christ in Matthew 25, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me."
After completion of this certification process and contract signature, the company is licensed to use the OVerus emblem on specified products.
Benefits With about 225 million Christians in the United States--three out of four people--and over one billion worldwide, OVerus presents a unique way to appeal to the shopper.
