OSTEM

Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (known colloquially as oSTEM) is an American national society dedicated to educating and fostering leadership for LGBT communities and their Allies in the STEM fields. The first chapter of oSTEM was founded in 2005 after a meeting of LGBT students at a focus group convened in Washington, D.C. The society has since begun chapters at several universities. The intent of the organization is to serve as a professional outlet for networking with academics, industry leaders, and fellow students that wish to incorporate their self-identity into their career. Their website describes oSTEM as "built by students, for students,"<ref name="about"/> although their mission statement does not limit the society's purview to college and university students. The national board, oSTEM Incorporated, has been established as a non-profit corporation.
