La Gran Aventura de Alejandro

La Gran Aventura de Alejandro (Alejandro's Great Adventure) is a textbook used by Spanish teachers throughout the United States to teach their students reading comprehension skills.
La Gran Aventura de Alejandro by Abby Kanter is a reader for the beginning levels of the language of Spanish. It tells the story of a young Mexican boy who travels to Spain with his family for Semana Santa (Holy Week). Alejandro is an adventurous boy who, while sightseeing, walks away from his family and meets a gypsy woman. She gives him a "magic" ring. As Alejandro spends the week sightseeing in Madrid and surrounding cities, his ring shines; and as it shines, it takes him back in time. Through his experiences, students learn about some of the history, literature, and culture of Spain.
It is about the adventures of a young boy named Alejandro who travels with his parents to Madrid for Semana Santa. When he rescues a Gypsy girl, Graciela, who was being bullied by some boys in the street, her mother, Manuela, gives Alejandro a magical ring. He puts it on, and the next day, while standing beside a statue of Don Quijote, he finds him magically transported to Don Quijote's time period. He ends up in Don Quijote's library. He meets the Don, and with him rescues a dozen prisoners who were unjustly imprisoned. He then re-appears in the present. When he tells his family his tale, they do not believe him. Later he finds himself in the time of the knights.
