One Difference

One Difference is part of the Global Ethics Group. It was founded by Duncan Goose, and is endorsed by several celebrities including David Tennant. It is considered a charity due to the work that they do in Africa helping people to drink safe, clean water. They sell bottled water, condoms and toilet roll as part of providing water for people in Africa. The profits from all of these products go to creating 'PlayPumps' which are water pumps that are spun (as a roundabout) instead of pushed. Therefore it allows children to play on the pump, and as they do, clean, safe drinking water comes from it.
They have so far established over 513 'PlayPumps' in several locations such as Kwa Zulu Natal, Mpumalanga, North West Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo in South Africa, as well as Malawi, Lesotho and Swaziland. They also have it in their plans to create more sites for more PlayPumps.
Perhaps the most noticeable thing about One Difference in recent months, is the creation and promotion of the Facebook One Difference Group, which has promoted itself with over 230.000 members to date. The original goal was to get 250.000 by World Water Day on 22nd March 2010 after which a sponsor would donate the funds for a pump which would then be sponsored by all those who joined the group, however because the target was not met, the sponsor still decided to donate the fund for the pump anyway. The Facebook group was not created for donations, but was recognised as an awareness drive.
One difference will soon be celebrating its 5th anniversary.
