Of Mice and Magic is a 2005 children's fantasy book by American author David Farland. The book was first published on October 1, 2005 through Covenant Communications and focuses on Benjamin Ravenspell, a young boy that takes in a pet mouse but ends up being transformed into one himself. Synopsis Benjamin Ravenspell wants a pet. While taking care of one he tries to feed a mouse to it called Amber. Amber contains magic abilities than turns Ben into a mouse. Ben and Amber aquire friends with Bushmaster and his vole family. While trying to rescue Amber's family, Ben is convinced to join the Nightwing, an evil bat with powerful dark magic. He plans to take over by making mutants. Ben and Amber must stop him from taking over the world. Reception Kirkus Reviews gave a mixed review for Of Mice and Magic, saying that "Farland tries to disguise an earnest play on themes of friendship and identity with a tongue-in-cheek overlay, but despite his track record in adult fantasy, the result here is just a muddle."
