Oded Yinon

Oded Yinon is an Israeli journalist and former official of the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
Background
Yinon was a journalist and official within the Israeli Government and a Zionist who set out how a Greater Israel could be achieved. He authored an article setting out his views that have become renown across the Middle East saying Israel should exploit internal tensions of Arab States.
Contribution to Middle East Geopolitics
Obed Yinon has made a very significant contribution to the unfolding geopolitics of the Middle East, particularly as as the author of a controversial plan known as the Yinon Plan which many see as explaining much of the international conflict and civil wars currently seen in the Middle East including Libya, Syria and Iraq.
This article was published in Hebrew in February 1982 in the journal Kivounim ("guidance" in Hebrew), published by the World Zionist Organization, based in Jerusalem, and was translated into English by Israel Shahak and republished in October 1982 by the Journal of Palestine Studies (1982-2008). It was entitled "A Strategy for Israel in the 1980s" but has become better known as the Yinon Plan. The plan sets out a series of steps that could lead to the realization of a Greater Israel with the main approach being the balkanization of the Arab world.
Much discussion is made of when the next steps of the plan will become manifest which include the dissolution of Iraq and Syria, the recovery of Sinai from Egypt, the liquidation of Jordan and termination of the rule of King Hussein with the the transfer of Arabs from Israel and the Occupied Territories to Jordan.
