Nothnegal

Nothnegal is a melodic death metal band from Male', Maldives that formed in 2006.
Background
Nothnegal was born in 2006, brainchild of guitarist Hilarl after he left 'Mortuary' along with Fufu and Wadde. Shortly they were joined by Humeyny as drummer, who was later replaced by Marn. This completed the initial lineup of Nothnegal, who were not willing to give up. As the bands line-up grew, with the help of Hamitte the band gave their first live performance in 2006 featuring covers of Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, etc.
As time passed the band decided to focus more on creating its own material. It was during this time that Shanoon joined Nothnegal as their keyboardist & helped in creating the band's original sound. With this move Nothnegal propelled forward to perform their own material. The bands efforts were well received among metal fans & soon rose to their due position in the Maldivian metal arena.
In 2008 Nothnegal was offered the opportunity to open for the Finnish power metal band Kiuas which was their first performance with an international band. After this, the band decided to record an independent, self-funded album.
The band is the first Maldivian metal band to get the attention from the international media and to have high profile musicians in their lineup. They are also one of the first in the region to get their record done at a European studio with well known engineers and have already been given endorsement deals by international brands which is rare for a band without any records out and is unsigned. Nothnegal can be noted for achieving all this in just a short period of time.
Right after recording "Antidote of Realism" both Marn and Shanoon decided to leave the band to continue their studies, they were replaced musicians such as Kevin Talley who has performed with Dying Fetus, Misery Index and Chimaira, and he is currently the drummer for the band Dååth and Marco Sneck who is currently playing with Kalmah and Poisonblack.
Musical style
Nothnegal's musical style is largely influenced by melodic death metal, thrash metal, and speed metal. Nothnegal can be compared to other metal bands such as Children of Bodom and Norther.
Antidote of Realism EP (2009)
In January 2009, their debut studio EP was announced on their official myspace and is said to be released on March 2009. The EP was recorded in December of 2008, mixed at Astia Studios by Anssi Kippo and mastered at Finnvox Studios by Minerva Pappi. "Antidote of Realism" can be noted for its high production quality and is comparable with commercial albums by the high rated bands of this genre with major record deals.
To create anticipation in the scene, the songs "Antidote of Realism" and "Temptress of Shadows" was released on the band's myspace page more than a month prior to the album's release. Nothnegal have stated that "Antidote of Realism EP" features several guest appearances including Eternal Tears of Sorrow guitarist Risto Ruuth on "Web of Deceit" and Kalmah keyboardist Marco Sneck who contributes a solo on the track "Antidote of Realism".
