The Newcastle upon Tyne Community First Party is a British political party founded in 2011, to field candidates for Newcastle City Council in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The party was formed by former members of other political parties and some who had belonged to no political party with the aim of providing a local alternative to the main parties. Its leader Jason Smith is a regular backer of community campaigners speaking in the council chamber. He is also one of the backers of an Elected Mayor for the city. The party was registered with the Electoral Commission in 2011 and contested local elections for the first time in 2011 under the description of It's time to put Newcastle First. The party's 2011 manifesto set out a commitment to bring more jobs to the city, build more houses and improve education. The party successfully campaigned against Newcastle City Council proposals to cut the trading hours of the Newcastle Quayside Market and called for an extension of the Tyne and Wear Metro system to Cramlington and the West End of Newcastle.
