Direct Congress

The Direct Congress political party, abbreviated as 'DC', is an American website devoted to building a functional wikidemocratic system for citizen drafting and review of American law: a powerful form of direct democracy. Two candidates for public office, Phil Dodds in Florida's 3rd district, and Jeremy Hansen in Washington County Vermont are being promoted by 'DC'. The party was founded by a group of Philadelphians in Pennsylvania; its design was created during Cory Suter's doctoral studies at Temple University. He has called Direct Congress "government 2.0, because it tweaks our existing system.". National Public Radio's Newsworks Tonight featured Direct Congress as a viable proposal to make the U.S. Congress work in the best interest of the nation, instead of favoring special interests. .
Founding and governing principles
The Direct Congress party is a non-partisan political party founded on the principles of electronic direct democracy. Its main aim is to create a working wiki style website where U.S. citizens can draft, edit, debate and vote on American law on the Internet, and then submit that legislation to Congress for "approval." Its second main aim is to seek out and support conventional politicians willing to obey the will of the people as expressed on a representative broad-based wiki.
Political platform
The Direct Congress party does not have a set agenda on particular partisan issues, other than to reform the structure of American government as a whole. Direct Congress supports candidates who commit to vote how a clear majority of their constituents vote online. The party also has plans to provide free local versions of "Direct Town Council," a micro version of Direct Congress to communities who want to make local government more democratic and accountable to the people.
Membership
All U.S. citizens are eligible, just as all U.S. citizens would be eligible to vote on the wiki once it is complete (estimated completion date: 2014).
