Nepalese Association in Southeast America

NASeA (Nepalese Association in Southeast America), a leading organization of the people of Nepali origin in the United States, was established in 1991 as a not-for profit 501 (c) 3 organization. Over 20 years it has been providing community and public relations services and promoting Nepali culture and heritage in the United States and has been supporting projects in Nepal to improve education, ecomony and public health of Nepalese. More recently it has escalated its activities in capacity building and in reaching out to partner to deliver services like blood drives, help develop Nepal cultural center in some states, enhance the size and quality of it national conventions, advocate the concern of Nepali who is situated anywhere globally and colease effort on matter that concern Nepali in the diaspora.
NASeA's missions are to:

- promote Nepalese culture and values
- advance human rights, freedom, and peace
- aid and assist fellow human beings
The current President is Sanjeeb Sapkota

History

In October 1991, over 100 Nepalese from seven southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee) gathered in Atlanta, Georgia and unanimously decided to establish an association of Nepalese living in this region and named it "Southeastern Association Of Nepalese in America" (SANA). The first elected president was Dr. Bishwa Acharya The official name of the organization was later converted to NASeA from SANA.
Program/ Activities
In Nepal, NASeA has been active in education (supporting schools, students and teachers), empowerment of women, indigenous and minority communities, humanitarian support. It also support and sponsor small to medium sized projects in Nepal by raising funds and promoting them.
In the US, NASeA’s major roles are to promote Nepalese cultural values and heritage, provide public services in immigration, legal, public health, medicine and promote language and arts to its community members and beyond.
It has helped collect hundreds of units of blood through several blood drives it organizes in various cities and states.

NASeA has been coordinating or assisting Nepali schools for the last several years in Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. The school is held once every week where children learn to write and speak Nepali and perform cultural dance. >
NASeA sponsors a monthly talk program, on issues and matters that concern Nepalese in Southeast America.
Conventions
NASeA organizes national convention every year and so far 21 of such has been organized since 1991. Since 2005, ANMA (Association of Nepalese in Midwest America) has joined as the coorganizer..
In 2000, NASeA organized the 1st International Convention of Nepalese Associations. Over 1500 participants attended from all corners of the United States and the globe. This convention was co-sponsored by two other US based Nepali organizations - the Association of Nepalis in the Americas and ANMA.
NASeA supports state based organizations celebrate festivals, events and activities including but not limited to Dasain (in October), the major festival of Hindus, Dheusi Bhailo (in October/November), a 'trick or treat' equivalent of Nepalese tradition where group of people go house to house singing, dancing, Teej (in September), an exclusive celebration of Hindu women. It also partners with state level organizations to provide forum to artists, performers (singers), film makers, social workers and entrepreneurs.
Bylaws and Meetings
The membership of NASeA is open to Nepali or non-Nepali from any part of the world. There are hundreds of annual and over 150 life members.
