Muslim peace movement

Muslims working for peace is not a new phenomenon and different muslim youth and student organizations has through out time worked against different war efforts and against prejudice.
However the first Muslim Peace Movement, Swedish Muslims for Peace and Justice that is solely dedicated to work with peace issues was started in Sweden 16 of March 2008 in Kista Science tower in a suburb outside of Stockholm. It was started by mainly young muslims from suburbs and has been succesfully led by Yasri Khan. The Muslim Peace Movement has received several awards and received diplomas from the Swedish King.
Since its inception it has generated a worldwide interest as it was quick to respond to the Stockholm bombing 11 dec 2010 as well as the terrorist attack committed in Norway 2011. It has built and office and heads a nationwide Peace Movement and is considered as one of the fastest growing Peace Movements in Sweden. The Muslim Peace Movement has had projects in France, Egypt, Palestine, Malaysia, Pakistan, Norway, USA and many more places. On the national front it has worked against street violence as well as leadership development programs. It has also been active in the debate on discrimination against minorities like anti-muslimism, defending the indigenous people of Sweden the Samis, the Romas as well as other vulnerable groups.
In december 2009 it was invited to participate at the UN alliance of Civilization in Istanbul. In 2011 it attended again in Doha.
In 2012 it was part of the opening of the Malaysian led initiative Global Movement of Moderates.
The Muslim Peace Movement has been invited to TedxManhattan to speak.
