Muhammad Wali Naeemi is the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations since 9 February 2022. He had also served as a Deputy Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations in the past.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan ceased to exist following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in August 2021 and the country is currently ruled by the Taliban Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan; however, the United Nations refused to recognize the Taliban-appointed envoy Suhail Shaheen, since the Emirate is not recognised by any UN member as a legitimate State.
