Mountainview Christian Reformed Church
|
Mountainview Christian Reformed Church is the largest church in Grimsby, Ontario, and the largest Christian Reformed Church in Canada. The church began as an offshoot of the Fruitland Christian Reformed Church. It was built on the corner of Bartlett Road and Regional Road 81 in 1967. An addition followed some years later.
The church continued to grow quite rapidly until, in 1986, a segment of the church left to form Providence Christian Reformed Church in neighbouring Beamsville. In 2000, under the leadership of Rev. Jerry J. Hoytema, Mountainview's expanding congregation necessitated a new church building. The new church was built a minute away on Regional Road 81, and the old building was subsequently demolished to make way for Shalom Evergreen Terrace, a retirement complex affiliated with the church, and an adjoining Christian nursing home, Shalom Manor.
Following the retirement of Pastor Jerry Hoytema in 2004, Mountainview began a search for a new pastor, which culminated in the arrival of Pastor Kevin Stieva in 2006.
Currently, Mountainview attempts to follow a blended worship style, mingling contemporary and traditional worship. It subscribes to the doctrinal standards of the Christian Reformed Church in Canada. Mountainview's motto is "Reach Up, Reach In, Reach Out", referring to its focus on God, the church congregation, and the community at large.
