Mountain West hip hop is a type of rap music popular in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Mountain West hip hop emerged in the late 1990's, and has continued to make a breakthrough throughout the past decade. ORIGINS Mountain West hip hop is said to have been formed by Skitso, a rapper from Billings, Montana. However, no one knows for sure who created it. Although Mountain West hip hop is not widely known, new Mountain West hip hop artists have been emerging over the years. Wyoming The best known rappers from Wyoming are J-Starz from Casper, Young Scrilla from Cheyenne, and Justin Ali from Jackson Hole. Yung Ice of Jackson Hole has also started to make a breakthrough. Montana The best known rappers from Montana are Skitso, Hakeem, Mistadoyle, and Platinum Stylez from Billings, and the Bank Boyz from Great Falls. Idaho The only two known rappers from Idaho are Curtis Plum and Sparky. Both rappers are from Boise.
