Mothers News is a free monthly newspaper published in Providence, RI by Rhododendron Festival.
Background
Mothers News has a circulation of 2,000 copies per month, including national and international subscribers who receive issues by mail. The first issue was published in May 2010. Initially a 2 page broadsheet format, it expanded in 2011 to 8 pages.
The paper is owned and published by Rhododendron Festival, Inc. and edited by Jacob Berendes. It is distributed locally in Providence and nationally at independent bookstores and art stores. It is also distributed by Load Records in their mail orders.
Newspaper Content
Mothers News includes articles on philosophy, religion, arts, culture, music, and more. The paper includes a street fashion column and a comic section, featuring monthly comics from several notable comic artists, including Brian Chippendale, Christopher Forgues, and others.
Mothers News is ad supported. Atypically, most advertisers in the paper choose to have their ads designed by Mothers News. The paper does not publish any content online, except for the ads, which are published online at Western Ohms.
Each month, a release party for the new issue is held at Flan y Ajo, a restaurant in Providence, RI.
