Michael "Mikey" Sam McGlaughlin (born 2 June 1989, in Nottingham, England) is a soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Zanesville Athletic FC. McGlaughlin is a product of the youth system at Notts County FC. Education McGlaughlin was a student at the West Bridgford School prior to sixth form. For his final two years of high school, he went on to attend South Nottingham College, where he attained a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports Development & Fitness. He was a part of the South Nottingham College football performance programme first team, and appeared on a number of occasions for the Hucknall Town FC U18's, where he made his FA Youth Cup debut aged 16. Career McGlaughlin began his career playing for the youth side of Notts County FC, and went on to have a two year spell playing at Southwell City. McGlaughlin's dominant displays in midfield saw him called up to represent the county of Nottinghamshire, the Nottinghamshire County Football Association, where he went on to earn 9 caps. At the age of 19, he embarked on a four year soccer scholarship at Ohio Wesleyan University. During his time at Ohio Wesleyan he made a handful of appearances on the team which won the 2011 NCAA national championship, defeating Calvin 2-1 in San Antonio, Texas. In April 2012, after rejecting offers from the St. Louis Lions, Luton Town FC, and Chesterfield FC, he signed a contract with AFC Cleveland where he could continue to play and finish his undergraduate degree in Health & Human Kinetics. He made his debut for the club against local rivals, Croatia Cleveland, on May 9, 2012. After sustaining a broken fibula following a heavy challenge during a game, McGlaughlin subsequently left the club and completed his rehab back in England. He returned to fitness in October 2012 and has been linked with a number of clubs both in the US and Europe. On April 18 2013, state rivals of AFC Cleveland, Zanesville Athletic FC, announced on their official website that they had secured the signature of McGlaughlin through the 2013 NPSL season, making him the first player to switch allegiances between the two sides.
