Michael Kasum, Ph.D. (born October 22, 1934) is a world traveler, author, and public speaker. He has traveled to more than 200 countries, regions and island groups, logging millions of miles by air, land, sea… and even oxcart. His articles have appeared in travel publications around the world. Kasum has also been profiled on the website “The World's Most Traveled People.” According to its criteria, he has traveled to 374 locales that are UN countries, as well as territories, dependencies, states or provinces of large countries, island groups, and isolated islands. Kasum is author of the travel book the Fingertip Travel Guide. The Fingertip Travel Guide has been called the “bucket list” travel book. Dr. Kasum has been a featured speaker before audiences such as the Travelers' Century Club (an organization where people are required to have visited more than 100 countries just to become a member). His writing and lectures focus on one key idea: the choice between being a tourist (taking cruise ships and bus tours) or being an “true” world traveler (someone who plans their own trips and is free to linger, thus gaining richer memories and savoring a more true taste of a country, its people, language, culture, and history). Dr. Kasum is a professor emeritus at the University of South Florida at Tampa (Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, 2001), He also is author of the novel The Last Truth.
