Michael Heitzler

Michael Heitzler is a German clarinetist and saxophonist. He is the clarinetist with quintet Kolsimcha.
Michael Heitzler studied classical clarinet in Freiburg, Germany with Dieter Klöcker and Jazz at the Mannes College of Music/New School in New York with Dave Liebman and George Garzone.
He played with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden (SWF) ,the European Symphony Orchestra, Consortium Classicum , Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, a.o.
Musicians and bands he collaborated with include Ron Mclure, Billy Hart, John Hollenbeck, Drew Gress, Akira Tana,Michael Alpert, Yale Strom, Metropolitan Klezmer and the Klezmatics with which he played extensivly in the late 90s.
Michael is a founding member of Kolsimcha. With this group he and his colleagues created a mixture of klezmer, jazz, classical, avangarde and eastern European folk music and performed in many of the most prestigious venues.
As a soloist he played with the London Mozart Players, the radio orchestras of the Bavarian and North German Radio, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, Tonkünstlerorchester, Basler Kammerorchester a.m.o.
The venues and festivals he performed at include Carnegie Hall, Musikverein Vienna (Goldener Saal), Queen Elisabeth Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Ravinia Festival Chicago, Aspen Music Festival, Smithonian Washington, Spivey Hall Atlanta, Klezmerfestival Zfat, the Jazzfestivals of Montreux, Berlin and Copenhagen a.m.m.
Awards and media
Michael Heitzler won second Prize at the XII. International Competion in Martigny (Switzerland) together with "Deutche Kammerharmonie" and won the European Jazz Award with the "World Quintet".
