Roy Theaker

Roy Theaker is an English violinist and conductor, and is currently the Associate Concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Artistic Advisor and conductor to the University of Melbourne Orchestras.
Biography
Early musical education began as a chorister in Chichester Cathedral Choir before entering the Yehudi Menuhin School, later achieving 1st Class Honours BMus and Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, London alongside studies in Vienna with the Russian pedagogue Boris Kuschnir. After leaving the RAM he worked primarily for the Academy of St.Martin-in-the-Fields and later became one of the conductors on Walt Disney Theatrical's West End Musical "The Lion King".
Leaving London for Portugal in 2002, he was appointed Concertmaster to the Orquestra do Algarve where alongside his duties as such he regularly conducted and directed the Orchestra in a variety of mediums - symphonic, chamber, opera, ballet and commercial.
In great demand as a Guest Concertmaster he has worked as such with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Sinfonieorkester, RTE Concert Orchestra, Orquesta Symphonica de Tenerife, Real Sinfonica Sevilla and Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.
As a soloist he has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Ukrainian Philharmonic, Bulgarian National Radio, Orquesta Manuel de Falla, Orquestra do Algarve and the Royal Academy Orchestras in venues including Santory Hall, Japan; the European Parliament, Brussels; The Holy Citadel, Jordan; the National Palace of Culture, Bulgaria; and in the UK at the South Bank and St.John’s Smith Square under the baton of, amongst others, Sir Colin Davis, Milen Natchev, Georg Schmohe and Joana Carneiro.
