Michael Dodge

Michael Dodge, of Long Beach, Mississippi, is the first law school graduate to receive a space law certificate in the United States.
Dodge graduated from the National Center for Remote Sensing, Air and Space Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2008.
Education
Dodge's undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), where he earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion. He also completed the unique curriculum requirements for USM’s Honors College.
Michael chose to study law after graduation from USM, and he was accepted to the University of Mississippi School of Law. His strong interest in science and technology led to a keen interest in intellectual property and other specialized areas of law. Specifically, Michael was attracted to the concept of law governing outer space, and so he began to work closely with the National Center for Remote Sensing, Air, and Space Law shortly after beginning his legal studies.
Requirements to earn the certificate include courses on U.S. space and aviation law, international space and aviation law, and remote sensing; participation in the publication of the Journal of Space Law; and independent research.
Awards
Dodge twice was awarded the Steven Gorove-Myres S. McDougal Space Law Award, once in 2007, and again in 2008. He also received, along with a partner, the 2007 Manfred Lachs North American Space Law Moot Court Competition 2nd Place Team Award. Additionally, he was honored with the 2008 Currie Johnson Griffin Gaines and Myers National Appellate Advocacy Competition Team Award.
