Melito Dias was born in Karachi. He attended Saint Patrick's High School, Karachi where he developed a reputation as a hockey wizard, playing as he did with teammates like Olympian Jack Britto. He received his religious training at the Papal Seminary, Kandy, Sri Lanka and was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi. From 1968 to 1972 he taught at St. Patrick’s High School. He was also the Group Scout Master and Prefect of Discipline at the school. He is one of a few priests with a Wood Badge, the mark of a dedicated scouter. From there he went on to become parish priest of St.Joseph Church, Larkana, Sindh, from where he wrote regular columns about his hermitage for the Christian Voice, Karachi. From 1990 - 1995 Fr. Dias was Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Karachi. Since then he has been Parish Priest of St Anthony’s church in Karachi. He is also a member of a group called CARE made up of people from all parishes and churches, with the objective to make the Christian cemetery, Gora Qabaristan, a clean and peaceful resting place for the departed. He is one of only a handful of priests of the Archdiocese of Karachi to complete 50 years of service.
