Melanie Layton

Melanie Layton is a fictional character on the soap opera Days of our Lives, played by Molly Burnett. She made her first appearance on July 31, 2008.

Character Background
Melanie is the precocious teenaged daughter of Dean Trent Robbins and half-sister of Max Brady. When Max started investigating his newly returned biological father Trent, he found out that he also had a half-sister. Max vowed to find her and left to France by himself. He was later joined by his girlfriend, Stephanie Johnson. When the pair arrived, they found out that Melanie attends a boarding school in Marseille and set out to get some more information as to her whereabouts.

A wild and free-spirited party girl, it is clear that Melanie knows her way when it comes to nightlife, fashion, and especially, boys. Melanie was being sought after by a young man named Les, who claimed that he owed her money. Max soon came to her rescue and agreed to pay part of Melanie's debt to Les so that he would back off. Melanie was furious that this stranger was butting into her business and demanded to know who he was. Melanie was shocked to learn that Max was her brother and equally excited at the fact that he was a celebrity, as Max had formerly been a racecar driver. Showing her thanks to Max for helping her with Les, she gave Max a bracelet as repayment.Melanie was later arrested for stealing the bracelet from a girl named Tiffany, a former friend. Max followed her to the police station to find out what was going on. When he came forward with the bracelet, he too was arrested as an accomplice. Stephanie arrived and when she expressed her feelings on Max's arrest, she too was jailed. However, Melanie was able to get in contact with her ex-boyfriend and persuade him to bail her out, leaving Max and Stephanie behind.

Back at the cafe, Melanie made acquaintance with Nick Fallon. Nick overheard Melanie telling her friend Michelle that she needed to find a new mark since her ex-boyfriend left town. Nick realized that this was Max's sister and decided to play a game with her. He pretended to chat on the phone with an investor and with Melanie in earshot, alluded to the fact that he was going to become a very rich man. It worked as Melanie almost immediately introduced herself to Nick. Nick eventually asked her out on a date but told her he needed to stop by the police station first to reclaim a lost passport. Melanie was less than pleased to learn that Nick was friends with Max and Stephanie. Max was able to get through to his sister and was able to convince her to persuade her friend Tiffany to drop the charges. Tiffany agreed to do so only if Max were to have dinner with her. He politely but reluctantly complied and he and Stephanie were released. Melanie later showed up at Max's hotel room short on money. She said she was hungry and asked if Max had any food. After a heartfelt talk, Max asked Melanie if she would return to Salem with him. She adamantly refused and left the room in a hurry. Melanie went into hiding and Max was worried about his sister.

Later, Nick called and told Max that he knew where Melanie was. She was hiding out on a yacht that belonged to some friends of her father. Melanie received a call from Trent who had a favor to ask of her. It was revealed that Trent has a gambling problem and he needed Melanie to "have a drink" with the man he owed a debt to. Melanie was furious that her own father was essentially "pimping her out" as a way to repay his gambling debts. Melanie soon found herself in trouble with the man as she realized that he wanted more than just a drink. Nick tried to come to her rescue but he was shot in the process. Melanie visited Nick in the hospital and thanked him for his bravery. She expressed her gratitude by giving Nick a kiss. She has since agreed to return to Salem with Max.
