Ann Douglas

Ann Douglas is a fictional character in the CBS daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful. The character, portrayed by Betty White, first appeared in ten episodes during December 2006 and returned for a few episodes in early and late 2007.

Character history
Ann, the widow of wealthy businessman John Douglas, is the estranged mother of Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery). Ann also has another daughter named Pamela (Alley Mills), with whom she lived with in Lake Forest, Illinois.

As a child, Stephanie had been physically abused by her father, John. Ann had denied what was happening and refused to listen to Stephanie when she went to her mother for help.

After marrying and starting her own family, Stephanie had confronted her mother on the abuse, but once more, Ann turned her back on her daughter, still intent on believing that Stephanie had been to blame, and not John. With this rebuff from her mother, Stephanie had told her husband Eric (John McCook) and the children that Ann had died and had cut her mother out of her life for 30 years.

Seeking to come to terms with her deep-seated anger, Stephanie, accompanied by her husband, once again traveled to Chicago to confront Ann and make her understand what her father did to her was wrong. Once again, Ann denied that any abuse had ever occurred.

Eric was so furious at this that he lashed out at her verbally. Finally, Eric and Stephanie left, feeling defeated.

Stephanie was very surprised when Ann and Pamela showed up in Los Angeles, a few days later. Ann finally admitted she had known about the abuse, but had done nothing to help Stephanie. She begged Stephanie for her forgiveness, but sadly, Stephanie felt that it was too late for them to salvage their relationship. Although she did accept her mother's apology, Stephanie felt that the damage had been too much and she asked her mother to leave her home.

Eric invited Ann and Pamela back to L.A. to join the family Christmas celebration, hoping that Stephanie would finally forgive her mother. At first, everyone shunned Ann, given what they knew about her, and Stephanie again asked Ann and Pamela to leave her home. But during a carol sing, Thorne's (Winsor Harmon) young daughter Alexandria (Harley Graham) extended her hand to Ann. Stephanie noticed how her youngest granddaughter welcomed Ann and, in a true show of strength, forgave her mother and allowed her and Pamela to join their holiday celebration.

Recently, Ann and Stephanie spent three weeks together, trying to repair their damaged relationship. Once again, Ann came to Los Angeles, since Eric had surprised his mother in-law with a new place to live in Los Angeles. At first, Ann didn't know what to think of it; but eventually, Eric acceded to her demands, and Ann happily moved to Los Angeles and started looking for a condo in Santa Monica. This way, she would be close to both Pamela, who had been invited to move into one of the guest houses on the mansion grounds, and Stephanie. She is also enjoying getting to know her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Stephanie was furious with Eric over this generosity, but he firmly told his wife that it was time that she took some responsibility for her mother and let Pamela, who had cared for Ann most of her adult life, at the expense of a life of her own, have some fun.

Ann and Pamela lived in one of the guest houses at the Forrester Mansion. Ann clearly adores Eric, despite his lashing out at her in Chicago, and she feels terrible that Stephanie doesn't appreciate what she has. The many years of hiding behind lies, and her situation with Stephanie, finally allowed her to see what she really needs to see.

After getting into an argument with Stephanie, Ann and Pamela returned to Chicago. However, Ann accompanied Stephanie back to Los Angeles, after she left town in the aftermath of her collusion with Andy Johnson in the raping of Brooke Logan. After she let Stephanie out at her home, Ann went back to Chicago.

Ann returned to B&B on December 10, in the wake of her daughter's shooting and surgery. However, when Ann returns, she will also have to contend with her daughter, Pam, who will return before she will. Accompanied with a doberman named "Tiny" and loaded with resentment for both mother and sister, Pam aimed to make sure she won't be stepped on again! Ann called the Forresters to convince Pam to return to Chicago, and it revealed that moreover, it was Ann who was caretaking, and not Pam, who had not taken her medication. She convinced Pam to return home.
