Meal Kit Supply Canada (MKSC) is a Canadian private corporation that provides US Military Meals, Ready to eat (MRE) to Canadian Military, Police, Fire and other emergency service personnel. Each MRE contains a Flameless Ration Heater: a light-weight polyester pouch which contains a magnesium powder packet that heats up upon contact with water. MKSC also separately provides Soldier Fuel Energy Bars, a modification of the traditional military . The Meal Kits, or MREs, are custom made and assembled by U.S. Department of Defense contractors. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) inspects and approves the meals for import into Canada. MKSC MREs are available as an alternative to Canadian Forces Individual Meal Packs (IMPs), which are only available to active and training Canadian forces. MKSC MREs are used as a de facto standard emergency and operational MRE by the Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Provincial Police as well as most search and rescue groups in Canada. MKSC MREs and packaging were featured in the 2008 film Blindness. They are also featured in upcoming "The Search," by the French Connection Hunting Team.
