Cameron Ross is the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) candidate in the riding of Sault Ste. Marie in the 2008 Canadian Federal Election. Ross was nominated by acclaimation at a meeting of Sault Ste. Marie Conservatives February 26, 2007.
Ross was also the Conservative candidate for Sault Ste. Marie in the 2004 Canadian Federal Election. In that election Ross finished third behind NDP Tony Martin, who was elected as well as incumbant, Liberal Carmen Provenzano.
Ross attended Central Algoma Secondary School in Desbarats, Ontario before joining the Canadian Forces. He graduated from the Canadian Forces Land Command and Staff College and holds a Military Arts and Science degree from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario.
Ross served for twenty years in the Canadian Forces throughout Canada and in Lahr, Germany as well as in operational theatres in Cyprus and Bosnia. Ross was posted to Sault Ste. Marie twice during his military career. First from 1987 to 1990 and from 1995 to 1998.
Ross then transfered to the Canadian Reserves where he commanded the 49th Field Regiment in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Ross has also served in the Primary Reserves as Commander of 33 Canadian Brigade Group.
Ross's family has a long history of military service in Canada. His son Eric was posted to Afganistan in early 2007 as a member of the Second Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and at least one member of Ross's family has been active in military service dating back to the First World War. Ross's father served in the Second World War and did four operational tours.
Ross is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Algoma Mutual Insurance Company located in Thessalon, Ontario.
